Hello Folks,
Let's frame the moment shall we? You're swapping your old nozzle to a new one and SNAP, uh-oh. The head comes off. You take a look at it and you can see the remnant brass thread still inside. Can't grab at it with pliers. An allen key can't get in there.
Well dang. Now what do we do? No worries. You were smart and printed your Hot End Service Tool Block.
This tool has a variety of uses. Today I'll show you how to extract a broken nozzle.
For starters, you will need the following.
First Let's put the hot end into the tool block.
You will need to remove the metal tube sticking out the back. This part is called a heat break. It must come out, and it's buddy the blue PTFE tube needs to come out with it. We can do this with the crescent wrench, or your favorite 6mm wrench.
Once you remove the heat break. You can take a look inside to see the damage.
Time to grab your sacrificial T7 or T8 driver bit. I'm using a T7 driver bit today because there's a fat glob of PLA stuck to the end. Be forewarned. You can break the tool this way.
Tap Tap with the hammer.
Now you want to stick the tool holder onto the bit, and give it a twist. You want to twist it clockwise. THAT'S RIGHT. Righty Tighty. You want to thread the busted piece outwards.
Look at it wiggle.
Drive it out and take a good look at the Hot End again. Make sure it looks clean and nice. M'kay, everything looks solid
Let's get the hot end back on. And we're ready to install the new nozzle.
use your favorite wrench and give The nozzle a snug tighten
And there we have it. Shiny new nozzle. Give yourself a pat on the back or highfive a nearby stranger. You deserve it!
